Bai Ling
Bai Ling is a Chinese actress and model who is probably best known for her role in the cult film ‘The Crow’ directed by Alex Proyas.
Born in China on October 10th 1970 Bai Ling (also sometimes credited in movies as Ling Bai) moved to live with her grandmother from a very early age, and after travelling to New York in 1991 to attend New York University’s Film Department she eventually obtained a special Visa that allowed her to stay in the country until she became an official citizen in 1999.
Bai Ling’s first movie role was in the cult classic film ‘The Crow’ the dark supernatural film about a man who returns from the dead to avenge the death of himself and his girlfriend who was raped and killed on Halloween. Bai Ling played the role of ‘Myca’ the half sister and lover of main gang leader ‘Top Dollar’ played by Michael Wincott. The film was to end in tragedy though after the main actor Brandon Lee was killed on set, although his death was ruled as accidental there are still a wide variety of conspiracy theories surrounding the movie and Brandon Lee himself.
The film soon became a cult hit with fans everywhere and gained Bai Ling great exposure. She later went on to film scenes for Star Wars episode 3 but these were cut from the movie in editing, Bai Ling suggests that this was because she had posed nude for men’s magazine ‘Playboy’ shortly after this, but director George Lucas denies this stating that the cuts had been made way before this and were just a natural part of editing in the film industry.
Bai was soon cast in the film ‘Wild wild west’ alongside actor and singer Will Smith as the Villain ‘Miss East’. The film was not as successful as everyone had hoped, and received mixed reviews from critics.
More recently in 2005 Bai Ling appeared on the VH1 show titled ‘But can they sing’ in which celebrities were challenged and judged on their singing abilities, Bai Ling became known for her raunchy and provocative shows but did surprisingly well.
Bai Ling hot the headlines in 2004 when she apparently admitted to being bisexual, there is not a lot of information widely available about her relationships but she has been romantically linked to Nick Carter who denies any involvement with Bai, stating that the two were ‘Just friends’.
