Christina Applegate
Probably best know for her acting work in TVs long running popular sitcom “Married With Children” Christina Applegate starred as Al’s daughter Kelly Bundy which lasted for almost ten years, when “Married With Children” finished Christina landed her own show in the form of Jesse, where she starred as Jesse Warner a single mother raising her nine year old child in the big city, it had acclaimed “Friends” writer Ira Ungerleider, but when it started to lose ground in the ratings war with other shows TV channel NBC decided to cancel the show after forty two episodes between 1998 and 2000
Christina was born in Hollywood, California to a record producing father (Robert Applegate) and a singer/actress mother (Nancy Priddy) who had a bout with breast cancer and survived, her parents split up after Christina was born, however her father later re married, Christina actually quit school at the age of seventeen to pursue her acting career in “Married With Children."
In 2002 Christina starred alongside Cameron Diaz and Selma Blair in the movie “The Sweetest Thing” playing Diaz’s best friend Courtney Rockcliffe and in 2006 she appeared in Jessica Simpson’s music video for “A Public Affair” with Eva Longoria and Ryan Seacrest.
In 2005 Christina signed up to do a revival of the 1966 hit musical “Sweet Charity”, however whilst practicing she broke a bone in her foot, the musicals producers said they would have to cancel the show, however Applegate persuaded the producers to rescind their decision and on Monday April 18th 2005 Christina Applegate made her Broadway debut as Charity Hope Valentine, the Broadway run ended in December 2005, but Christina was nominated for best actress in a musical Tony award for her performance.
After her mothers run in with breast cancer Christina Applegate has been a long time campaigner for Breast Cancer charity “Lee National Denim Day” which raises millions of dollars every year to help the fight against Breast cancer, its treatment and diagnosis. She is also an animal rights supporter and has appeared in TV adverts supporting PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) reminding people to forget fur for Christmas.
It would be great to see more of this talented woman on our TV screens in the future as she is greatly missed by many fans of ‘Married with children’. Let’s hope we see her appear in much more in the near future
