Emma Bunton
Emma Bunton is probably best known for her career in the Entertainment industry and a member of the popular girls band ‘The Spice Girls’ her nickname was ‘Baby Spice’ and the girls catchphrase was ‘Girl Power!’.
Emma grew up in North London and her parents split up when she was just 11 years old. Emma joined the band ‘The spice girls’ in 1994 and no-one could have predicted the huge success the group would achieve. They became one of the most successful and highly ought after musical artists of the 1990’s and sold over 40 million copies of their albums.
They had nine number ones in the UK and also reached the number one positions in 37 other countries around the world. Their biggest hits include ‘Spice up you life’ ‘Wannabe’ and ‘Say you’ll be there’. The spice girls stopped recording together in 2000 in order to focus on their individual solo careers.
Emma went solo and her first number one single was ‘What took you so long’ from the album ‘A girl like me’. Unfortunately her other hits seemed to be a bit of a disappointment with some only just scraping into the top 5 in the UK charts. She later left Virgin records and signed with Simon Fuller’s management and in 2003 returned to the music scene as ‘Emma’ losing the ‘Bunton’ part of her name. Emma released another top 5 hit titled ‘Free Me’ in 2003 and in the same year released ‘Maybe’ which only just made the top 10 in the charts.
Emma attempted to make it big in the states when she released her album ‘Free Me’ over there; however it was a dramatic failure only reaching number 183 in the billboard 200.
Despite this, Emma remains confident and undeterred and with a wonderful singing voice behind her she definitely has the potential to go a long way. She is currently working on a new album which is set to be released late 2006.
Emma has been dating singer Jade Jones for eight years and the couple are now reportedly engaged with a wedding planned for March 2007. You can currently see Emma Bunton appearing on the UK TV series ‘Strictly come dancing’ in which celebrity contestants learn how to ballroom dance and compete against one another to win the show. She is a brilliant dancer and should go far in the competition without a doubt.
