Lil Kim
Born Kimberly Denise Jones, but better known to everyone as star female rap artist Lil’ Kim. It is the dream of both many and many women to see lil kim exposed.
Lil’ Kim is one of the most successful rap artists of all time, and has sold more albums then any other female artist to date, racking up a rather impressive twelve million albums sold globally, she has also had three consecutive platinum albums, a title only matched by fellow female rapper Missy Elliot. One of Lil Kim's most popular albums is La Bella Mafia and The Naked Truth.
Lil’ Kim hails from Brooklyn, New York, where at nine years old her parents split up, leaving her to live with her father. Kim’s relationship with her father was frosty at best culminating with her trying to stab him, during a heated argument, not long after her father left, leaving Kim homeless with no other option than to live with her mother, sleeping in a car.
Apparently Kim was living on the streets when a rather well known and now deceased music artist met her (Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G). In 1994 Wallace was using his massive influence promoting the group Junior Mafia, which featured Kim albeit known as “Big Momma” or “The Lieutenant”, the group only released one album, and the most successful track from that album (Playas Anthem) some of which was penned by Lil’ Kim herself, who managed to write the 16 bars of the verse, to date the album has sold an impressive 1.1 million copies easily making it platinum.
Lil’ Kim is probably best known to non rap fans, as one of the women from the recent lady marmalade remake, centred around the Hollywood film Moulin Rouge, Lil Kim, Pink, Mya and Christina Aguilera all re recorded the classic track by Labelle, for the soundtrack album, and did a sultry video for the music channels, Kim also received her first Grammy award for Lady Marmalade.
Lil’ Kim also tries to help out people less fortunate than herself, she recently set up a foundation called “Lil’ Kim Cares”, which tries to help people who contact the foundation through email, in Christmas 2005 her charity along with a friends, donated food, toys and clothing to struggling families in Philadelphia.
Between 2000 and 2002 Lil’ Kim and friend Mary J Blige, were spokeswomen for MAC cosmetics, raising an astonishing amount of money (around four million dollars) for people living with AIDS.
Kim is apparently about to do two new movies in 2007, one of which is supposed to be autobiographical similar to Eminem’s 8 Mile, she is also set to release her own clothing and footwear brand. So expect to see lots more of Lil’ Kim in the not to distant future.
