Lucy Liu
Born on December 2nd 1968 Lucy Liu is a successful actress who has appeared in a huge amount of well known movies and TV series during her career. She was born in New York and raised with her brother and sister in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York. Her parents were Chinese immigrants and the family often struggled to earn enough money to keep them going, they survived for a long period of time on just boiled rice and cucumber.
This lifestyle inspired Lucy to put all of her time and effort into her studies so that she could get a good job. She eventually graduated from college with a degree in Chinese language and culture.
Her venture into the acting world didn’t come until she took part in her university production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. She then went on to get roles in several TV series including a small part in the classic cult TV series ‘The X Files’ starring Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny and a regular role in another hit series ‘Ally McBeal’ in which she played the part of Ling Woo for around 30 episodes. Her character became one of the fans favourite stars and lead to many bigger film and TV roles for Lucy Liu in the near future.
Her breakthrough film role came when she was asked to star in the film ‘Charlie’s Angels’ in 2000 alongside Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore, Lucy played the feisty Alex Munday and the three girls seemed to gel instantly displaying a great on screen presence, Liu’s acting subsequently earned her a place in the sequel in 2003 for ‘Charlie’s Angels – Full Throttle’ which proved to be just as successful as the first film.
Lucy was cast in another highly desirable film shortly after this in Quentin Tarantino’s huge blockbuster ‘Kill Bill, Volume 1’. She played the part of O-Ren Ishii (assassin Cottonmouth) the violent and deadly assassin who was on ‘The Bride’s’ list of people to kill. She acted superbly in this film and her ability to play the sharp tongued; menacing type character was a joy to watch.
Lucy Liu has been romantically linked to actor George Clooney and engaged to playwright Zach Helm but their relationship ended in 2005. She is currently in the process of filming many movies, including lending her voice to an animated character in ‘Kung Fu Panda’ due for release in 2008.
