Rachel Stevens

Rachel Stevens is probably best known for her time in the successful pop group ‘S Club 7’ aimed at younger children and teenagers. Born on April 9th 1978 in London, England she has since left ‘S Club 7’ and started her own pop and acting career.

It was in her time with ‘S Club’ that she was at her most popular; the group were an instant success with their blend of cheesy pop tunes and lively dance music sweeping the nation. They had several number one and top 10 hit singles and even went on to star in their own TV series ‘S Club 7 in Miami’.

Rachel was always the popular one in the group from the very start, and whilst other members of the band received some bad press at times Rachel’s was almost always positive. She had the luxury of having both the press and her fans on side.

Unsurprisingly when S Club 7 decided to eventually split up as a band, it was Rachel who first went on to secure a £1.5 million 4 album record deal with Polydor records.

She steamed straight into the charts with her first single ‘Sweet dreams my LA-Ex’ reaching a much deserved number two position in the UK charts.
Her album soon followed but didn’t do quite as well as originally hoped and only made it to number nine in the charts; it did get some great publicity and reviews though which showed that Rachel still had potential to go further.

She continued to release singles and eventually they started charting at great positions again, proving that Rachel was clearly the most talented of the bunch. In 2004 she was nominated for two ‘Smash Hits’ awards for ‘Best dressed star’ and ‘Most fanciable female’ although these weren’t the music orientated awards she had hoped for, the attention that they brought her ensured that she remained popular whether or not she had a single out at the time.

Rachel went on to release songs from her second album over the next few months ‘Negotiate with love’ and ‘So Good’ both were regarded as great songs but only made it to a rather disappointing number 10 in the UK charts.

Rachel’s personal life hit the tabloids in 2002 when she became engaged to actor Jeremy Edwards. Unfortunately their happiness was short lived though, with the couple splitting up just 2 years later.

Rachel went on to date Gavin Dein (Son of Arsenal football clubs vice chairman) but since they also split she has been linked to Arsenal football player Freddie Ljungberg amongst others and is involved with various charity campaigns including one for raising awareness for testicular cancer.
