Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek is a successful Mexican actress and director who’s stunning looks and highly capable acting abilities have made her one of Mexico’s most successful stars of all time. She is a feminist who supports charitable work such as awareness about violence against women, and the prevention of discrimination against immigrants.
When she was just 23 years old Salma was offered a role in a Mexican soap opera called Teresa and from there was soon catapulted into the Hollywood film industry when she moved to America and won a role in the film ‘Desperado’ alongside successful actor Antonio Banderas.
Moviegoers instantly took a liking to Salma as an actress and she soon found herself with a strong fan base. Her next big role was a part in the Quentin Tarantino cult vampire classic ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ and this boosted her credibility as an actress even further.
She starred in the big budget movie ‘Wild Wild West’ alongside singer and actor Will Smith in 1999 and although the role was slightly different to those she had previously played she was once again a big hit. Salma has her own production company, which she founded around the same time as these films, and found herself winning various awards for her production skills as well as her acting.
In 2003 she won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in a Children/Youth/Family Special.
She later went on to make her own TV series ‘Ugly Betty’ which was eventually picked up by ABC and proved to be a success.
Salma Hayek has dated some of the biggest Hollywood stars including Edward Norton with whom she had a four year relationship with. The couple split in 2003 and Salma formed a relationship with Josh Lucas for a year. She is fluent in both English and Spanish and was Glamour magazine’s ‘Woman of the year’ in 2001.
It is rumoured that Salma considers marriage to be a tradition that is not always needed, stating that two people should not need a document to prove how much they love each other. She is currently happily single and alternates between her two homes in LA and Mexico.
