Uma Thurman
Uma Thurman was born on April 29th 1970 and is a well known film actress. The first movie that really got her noticed was the 1988 film Dangerous Liaisons alongside Glen Close, Keanu Reeves and Michelle Pfeiffer about a circle of rich and bored aristocrats in France.
After a series of relatively unheard of films she was then cast in a film that was to do wonders for her career. She won the part of Mia Wallace in the cult film Pulp Fiction by acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino.
The movie showed her in a completely different light and proved that she was an extremely gifted actress. The on screen chemistry between her and co star John Travolta was simply amazing and the film soon became a huge cult favourite among movie fans and critics alike.
She formed a close friendship with Quentin Tarantino during filming, and it is believed that on set is where the pair came up with the idea for another cult film that Quentin would later go on to direct and ask Uma to star in ‘Kill Bill’ the story of a deadly assassin betrayed by her friends and lover, and determined to avenge the death of her unborn child.
She played what is in my opinion the best lead role for a female ever portrayed in a movie, she acts with passion and makes a film that is certainly a bit far fetched in places seem completely believable and its violence almost justified.
Uma’s more recent films include a few comedy roles such as ‘Prime’ and ‘My super ex girlfriend’ both of which show that she is able to make the audience laugh as well as have them completely captivated by her dramatic acting skills.
Uma was once married to actor Ethan Hawke and the couple went on to have two children named Maya Ray and Levon Roan. However in 2004 the couple filed for divorce and eventually separated later that year. Uma now lives in New York and continues to have a blossoming acting career. She is a very keen political supporter and is a strong supporter of gun control laws and was involved in a petition to legalise abortion.
Uma Thurman is without doubt one of America’s most talented actresses and it would be fantastic to see her work further with Quentin Tarantino in the future and make some more of those cult films that we have all grown to know and love.
