Playstation 3 at A Glance
Playstation 3 is Sony's seventh generation video game console. Back in 1995, when Sony entered the video game industry, few believed they would become the juggernaut that they are today. Playstation has become a household name, and over a 100 million original consoles have sold world wide.

Now Sony is prepared to do battle with Microsoft and Nintendo. While Xbox 360 has been plagued with problems from overheating and freezing, as well as its lack of availability and high prices, Sony seems prepared to dominated the market.

The PS3 is coming to American shores in the summer of this year. The PS3 is backward compatible with PS1 and PS2 games. While the price of the PS3 is not of this writing known to the general public, Ken Kutaragi has said that he feels the high price of the console will not matter, because consumers will pay for a superior product.

More than likely, the PS3 will be around the same price as Xbox 360. The floating point operations of the PS3 are higher than Xbox 360. As you may already know, the PS3 uses a cell processor. It will house a 3.2 Ghz SPE or RISC processors.

Its video card alone is 550 mhz, faster than the central processing speed of my oldest computer. It can perform 1.8 TFLOPs per second . It also can render 74 billion shader operations per second. The PS3 takes advantage of technology offered by Nvidia.

Technical lingo aside, PS3 wll basically be a kick ass machine. It is state of the art, and in my personal opinion, is a much better investment than Xbox 360, which has been dogged by problems since it was released. While at this time I don't know what Nintendo has up their sleeve with the Revolution, it seems Sony may be prepared to win this generation of consoles.
